Pastor Steve concludes the story of Abraham. The final episode in the life of Abraham happens to focus on the first theme of Advent: death. As much of a ‘downer’ as this Advent theme might be, it raises a question that we should be asking at Christmas: What good are God’s promises when we’re all going to die? Is our Christian celebration of Christmas simply ‘cocaine for the soul’—a drug that helps us forget about the troubles of this life and the end we face? Or is there something more to it?
