Church and Politics? Even mentioning these two words in the same sentence elicits a mix of emotions and responses. Most of us, when it comes to the idea of politics, are inclined to feel discouraged and hopeless. But because the gospel demands public witness, our politics can’t be relegated to a private affair. So rather than avoid the conversation, we’re going to seek to engage this important topic with both compassion and conviction. Far from seeking to promote a party or platform or argue about what policies should or should not be the litmus test for Christian faithfulness, this session will seek to engage with Biblical principles to guide a more faithful civic engagement. One that takes seriously the truth that Jesus is Lord and the command of Christ to love our neighbors as ourselves.
This session will serve as a primer for an event we’re excited to host later this same evening. We’re inviting special guests to provide additional historical and missiological perspectives on the relationship between church and politics with an opportunity for further dialogue and discussion.
